Yarn Shop Day Success!

We were very excited to take part in Love Your Yarn Shop, organised by Let’s Knit and Let’s Get Crafting magazines.

The day is designed to remind consumers of the value of their local wool store. With the growth of the internet we have far more shopping opportunities than ever before, but when it comes to knitting there’s no substitute for seeing and touching the yarn, and for having the advice of experienced knitters on hand.

Yarn shops provide all this and more; they are sources of great inspiration and often a community hub. It’s been a tough time for the high street recently so they are encouraging consumers to support these shops and enjoy all that they have to offer.

Having signed up to take part in the day we have been tweeting about it, along with lots of other yarn shops and posting updates on our facebook page.

To let passers by know that something was happening, we decided that we would have a Maypole display in the window. Judith got busy making dancing ladies wearing dresses.

Ladies ready for dancing!!

Jean made lots of knitted flowers for our knitted flower workshop and these also went into the window display
so all we needed was some cake and we were ready for the day

The morning was fairly quiet. We did have a few visitors for tea and cake, some of whom were even going into York for the afternoon to visit Ramshambles who were also celebrating Yarn Shop Day, we like this idea, kind of a Yarn Shop Day safari!!!

Then in the afternoon we were glad of some help from Judith’s sister, Deborah who came to serve refreshments whilst Jean ran a busy workshop.

We ran out of chairs and space in the workshop so a couple of the ladies sat in the shop to knit their flowers whilst other customers browsed the yarns and enjoyed some refreshments.

What a good idea…when’s the next Yarn Shop Day we wonder?
