An Introdution to Fair Isle Knitting

Fair Isle knitting can be described as knitting a repeating pattern or design using 2 colours in the same row.

There is a bit more information on my blog written just before the first workshop I did .

If you can do both knit and purl stitch with confidence you can progress onto Fair Isle knitting.

In this workshop you will learn the techniques needed to get started with 2-colour (more if you like) knitting.

We will begin by learning about and practising stranding and weaving the yarns at the back of the work.

You will learn how to follow a chart and we will look at choosing yarns & colours for your fair isle knitting.

We will progress into starting your own designer cushion. You will receive a kit (choice of colours) containing

  • Pattern
  • 2 x 100g skeins of Aran knitting wool 100% bluefaced leicester
  • 1 x 50g Aran knitting wool 100% bluefaced leicester
  • 5 buttons

For the workshop you will need 5mm needles to start the cushion (will also need 4mm for the edgings)
For the rest of the day it would be useful to bring along 3.25, 3.5, 4, 4.5 & 5 needles.

click one of the links below and contact the venue if you would like to book a place on this workshop

Please note that the following workshop has been postponed date to be decided.

29th October 2022 at Knitting Pretty, Knaresborough

I shall look forward to planning more dates for this workshop as and when venues can be arranged.
