An Introduction to Intarsia Knitting

The Intarsia technique is often used for sweaters with large, solid-colour features or ‘picture jumpers’ with designs such as fruits, flowers, geometric shapes or Christmas motifs like snowmen and robins.

There is more information on this technique on my blog.

If you can do both knit and purl stitch with confidence you can progress onto Intarsia knitting.

In this workshop you will learn the techniques needed to get started on knitting with multiple colours. I will provide you with lots of hints and tips to achieve a neat, attractive finish.

We will begin by learning about and practising changing colours and following a chart. We will experiment with creating different shapes.

We will progress into starting your own designer cushion. You will receive a kit containing

  • Pattern
  • 7 x 50g balls double knitting wool 100% bluefaced leicester
  • 4 buttons

For the workshop you will need 3mm needles to start the cushion (will also need 2.75mm for the edgings)
For the rest of the day bring a selection of needles such as 3.25, 3.5, 4, 4.5 & 5 mm
