I am very new to blogging and still finding my feet. Today I discovered that it is Knitting and Crochet Blog week
A quick read of the website tells me that I can blog each day on a particular subject and use special hash tags to tell people about the blogs on twitter and face book.
I have to admit to being slightly intimidated by the topics offered as they reminded me of sitting ‘o’ levels, as I am not really a writer and it is a good 30 years since I left school. I really like the idea of the week so am going to try to join in anyway. As I am reminded of my teenage self, I have pulled a sweater from that era out of the draw for day one for which I am invited to ‘Describe a day in the life of a project that you have made, or are in the process of making.’
A day in the life of a 1980’s sweater.
Hello I am from 1988. I was knitted by a 19 year old girl who had just left school. I was knitted from a pattern in Pins and Needles magazine. My creator wanted to knit herself something to take away to college that would look great with leggings and jeans and I was worn lots when I was first created. The wool to make me was bought in the local store in the town of Brighouse. I think that the shop was quite new then but disappeared some time ago.
I have spent much of my life tucked away in different pieces of furniture as my maker has moved around Yorkshire, married and had children. Many changes have taken place and there have been several homes but I have always been there. As I was knitted in pure wool, I am warm to wear and the colours have lasted remarkably well. Most of my days are spent in a drawer with other garments she has made. Sometimes I get to come out and today is one of those days. I still look really good with jeans and leggings.
